Man machine charts are used to improve productivity. A man-machine chart displays relationship between manual work performed by operators and machine involved in a manufacturing process graphically. You can create Man-Machine Chart in MS Excel.
The worker and machine process chart (Man-machine chart) is used to study, analyze, and
improve one workstation at a time. The chart shows the exact time relationship between the working cycle of the person and operating cycle of the machine. These facts lead to utilization of both worker and machine time, and a better balance of the work cycle.
Man-Machine Chart operations consist of three main steps:
- GET READY, such as putting material in the machine.
- DO (Doing the work), such as drilling a hole.
- IDLE (Waiting for an operation to be completed or being idle or having no job to do).

Placing one side of a matt ………………………………… 15 minutes
Printing either side. ………………………………………… 30 minutes
Turning the matt. ………………………………………….. 5 minutes
Removing the matt. …………………………………………15 minutes
