Digital Signal
Signal is an electric current or electromagnetic field used to convey data from one place to another.
OR
Signal is an electromagnetic wave that carries information through physical medium.
OR
A signal can also defined as an electromagnetic or electrical current that carries data from one system or network to another.
Digital Signal
A digital signal is a signal that represents data as a sequence of discrete values. Digital signals are utilized in all digital electronics, including computing equipment and data transmission devices.
Examples of digital signals:
- Digital watches.
- Digital video signals.
- CD.
- DVD.
- Computer.
- Smart transmitters using various protocols transmit data through analog and digital signals.
Advantages of Digital Signals
- Digital circuits are easier to design.
- Input and outputs in digital circuits have accuracy, preciseness and reliability.
- Message is easy to store.
- Capabilities of logical decisions and arithmetic, logic and Boolean operations.
- You can edit the sound without altering the first copy.
- Digital data can easily compressed.
- It can convey information with less noise, distortion, and interference.
- Digital circuits are smaller in size that is why more digit circuitry can fabricated on ICs.
- Digital signals can transmit over long distances.
Disadvantages of Digital Signals
- The most of the physical values in real world are analog.
- The circuits have high complexities.
- Processor speed is limited.
